With those formalities out of the way, I would like to ask a very specific question that I haven't heard an answer to yet...
The Seattle media has spent hours and hours debating the Seahawks decision to sign former Bucs tight end Kellen Winslow since the news broke a few days ago. For the most part the trade has been met with caution enthusiasm. The Hawks receive the tight end with a conditional 7th round pick that turns into a 6th if Winslow plays. Winslow is rapidly approaching the dreaded age of 30 (by NFL standards anyway) and has had several knee surgeries in the past.
Regardless of his age and injury history I have simply this to ask; How often has this idea of the aged veteran being transplanted to a new team and a fresh start actually worked? Now don't hear me wrong, I am not dismissing the trade, I too am cautiously optimistic about what Winslow brings to the Seahawks. Even if he only plays a season or too, Winslow is a very talented player and would provide benefits to the Seahawks beyond running routes.
That being said, lets think back to a few former Seahawks who this did not play out well. 1.) Lendale White 2.) TJ Houshmandzadeh 3.) Julius Jones are the three former Hawks that I can think of in recent years. All of them are transplants, and all of them didn't work out. Granted, they all had different reasons for not working out beyond age and injury, but I cant help but worry that Kellen will be the latest addition to this list. I hope it works, man I hope it works. Only time will tell, and hey, isn't this why we love the NFL?
